University College for Agrarian and Environmental Pedagogy as of October 2007

On March 1st, 2006 the Austrian Universities Act was decided upon by the National Council.  The transition of the Agrarpädagogische Akademie into the College for Agrarian and Environmental Pedagogy is provided for in this law.  (BGBI. I 30/2006 Hochschulgesetz 2005).
The future education will be concluded with the title "Bachelor of Education" and lasts three years, as before.  In addition to the enhancement of the quality of the education, the international comparability as well as the interchangeability within the education system will be made possible.  The curriculum is modularly designed and evaluated with the ECTS System (European Credit Transfer System). Tuition fees will also be introduced (Euro 363 per semester).
Furthermore, it was decided upon that along with the teaching certificate the qualifications for the agricultural advice and consulting services of the Chamber of Agriculture will also be completed.  The education for the graduates of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences will also be offered at the future College.

Teachers at agricultural schools as well as members of the corporate consulting and promotion service in the field of agriculture and forestry are key people in rural development.

The basic requirement for their work is profound specialized knowledge but this alone is not sufficient in terms of educational professionalism. It is necessary as well to acquire a number of specific attitudes and behaviours. Nobody inherits such educational competences as an innate talent, nor can they be "produced" through simple training. They are developed and promoted by studying-conditions which enable students to deal with topics like education, teaching and consulting in a self-reflective way. These conditions also encourage the students to encounter and interact with others.

The education at the "Hochschule für Agrar- und Umweltpädagogik" (University College for Agrarian and Environmental Pedagogy) is largely oriented on the above-mentioned learning conditions. A team of highly qualified teachers works with students on the development of their agricultural knowledge as well as on their pedagogical professionalism. Moreover a number of general conditions also contribute to the development of their professional competence. These include courses that are mainly organized in relatively small seminar and training groups, diverse additional offers, a manageable number of students, as well as studying in the pleasant surroundings of one of Vienna's prime locations. Studies at the "Hochschule für Agrar- und Umweltpädagogik" therefore not only offer a solid professional education but also a learning atmosphere that encourages personal development.
